BIOGRAPHY

Erick Roa is a talent and operations leader dedicated to building thriving, inclusive, and high-performing organizations through equity-driven leadership. As Chief Operating Officer at Making Waves Education Foundation, Erick has been instrumental in fostering a culture where employees feel empowered, engaged, and aligned with the organization’s mission to advance educational equity. His strategic and values-driven leadership has contributed to the foundation’s continued growth and lasting impact.

Erick’s career began in 2008 as a high school English teacher in his hometown of Brooklyn, NY, where he discovered his passion for creating spaces of belonging, connection, and achievement—principles that remain central to his work today. Before joining Making Waves, Erick partnered with nonprofit and social impact organizations nationwide to design and implement strategies that elevate organizational culture and support people at every stage of their careers.

As a first-generation high school and college graduate, Erick’s connection to education equity is deeply personal. His own journey inspires his commitment to ensuring that all individuals, regardless of background, have access to opportunities that enable them to thrive.

Now based in the San Francisco Bay Area, Erick finds joy in spending time with his wife, Danie, their two daughters, Ella and Leila, and their spirited doodle, Luna. A passionate strength trainer, he balances his drive for personal growth with a deep dedication to family, purpose, and community.
