BIOGRAPHY
Rachel Kimboko joined DC Wildflower Public Charter School in 2021 as the Founding Executive Director for Stakeholder Engagement. Prior, she spent two years as the Assistant Head of School for Lee Montessori PCS’s new East End campus, following two years at the Brookland campus leading Child Study and instructional coaching. Rachel followed her daughter into the Montessori world when she was 18 months old and has worked or taught in many variations of the elementary classroom and in district, charter, and private schools. While working for DC Public Schools, Rachel was involved in several initiatives that involved developing curriculum and delivering training to the broader DCPS community.
Before teaching, Rachel spent nearly twenty years working in community technology and development programs in various contexts. She worked on several national projects, providing technical support and training to practitioners across the country, or facilitating education design processes. Another earlier theme of her career was work and consulting with youth-development organizations like City Year, Citizen Schools, or the Computer Clubhouse Network.
Rachel is deeply connected to the Montessori community in DC and beyond. She transitioned from a Founding Board Trustee at Breakthrough Montessori to the board of Sojourner Truth Montessori in 2022. She is the Vice-Chair/Treasurer of the AMI Elementary Alumni Association during a time when they have launched new partnerships, expanded their work globally, and leveraged technology to increase impact.
Rachel received a BA from Dartmouth University (1987) and an MEd from Harvard Graduate School of Education (1996). She completed the AMI Elementary diploma at Hershey Montessori Training Institute, the AMI Montessori Core Principles course at Montessori Institute of North Texas, and the Montessori School Administrator course at Southwest Institute for Montessori Studies, and Harvard’s Certificate in School Management and Leadership. Currently, she is part of the Greenhouse E3 Fellowship program.
